FAQ for Apple iPad 8 / iPad 10.2″ Repairs

What’s the difference between the two iPad 8 screen repair types?

Essentially, on the 10.2″ iPad 8, the front glass and digitizer (the part that registers touch) are separate from the underlying LCD panel itself. Very often- more often than not, in fact- a “cracked” screen is really just damage to the front glass.

If the underlying LCD is still intact (which applies to most cases) we only have to replace the digitizer and front glass, which costs significantly less than a full LCD replacement.

You can usually tell if the LCD itself is damaged as the display itself will be messed-up rather than just the glass in front of it. However, if you’re in doubt, bring your iPad to us.

My 10.2″ iPad 2020 / eighth-gen is swollen- What does that mean?

If your iPad looks like it’s bulging or it has swelled up, that means the battery inside is swollen (i.e. looks like a “pillow”). This is typically due to damage or wear. Batteries in this state can be dangerous, and if your iPad 8 battery is swollen, you should stop using it until the battery has been professionally replaced.

(Note also that battery swelling can sometimes cause bending or crush damage to other internal components).

Do you charge for diagnosis?

If the problem only requires a quick, over-the-counter look or discussion, we don’t charge. If your iPad 8 needs booked in for further investigation, there’s a £CALL charge to cover our time, and that’s already included in the repair price anyway if you have your iPad fixed.

My iPad got wet- should I get it looked at?

If you have reason to believe the water- or other liquid such as tea, coffee, fizzy drinks or alcohol- got past the sealing and into your 10.2″ iPad, it’s recommended that get have it looked at. (Especially if it’s showing signs of damage.)

Corrosion can be ongoing even as the liquid dries out and an iPad that looks okay today might not be tomorrow. Since the damage is caused by solvents in the liquid and the residue left behind as it dries, drying your iPad in rice (or however) doesn’t fix the underlying problem- in fact, it can make it worse.
