iPhone 7 Repair FAQ

What’s “Audio IC disease”?

Audio IC disease is a problem affecting the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Symptoms include:-

  • Siri doesn’t respond (because it doesn’t hear you)
  • Dropped audio
  • Intermittent static
  • Greyed-out voice memos icon and loudspeaker icon
  • Only affects some audio facilities while others continue to work
  • Several other symptoms are possible including slower-than-normal bootup (taking several minutes), the phone getting stuck at the Apple logo, being “laggy” after you enter the passcode and so on

It’s caused by the iPhone 7 series having a weak point where the case can bend, in turning putting pressure on the board inside, causing chips to become detached. Fortunately, we can usually repair your iPhone 7’s audio IC problemsclick here to book an appointment.

How do your “Basic” and “Premium” screen replacements compare?

“Basic” screen repair is a budget choice which uses a standard third-party replacement LCD. It’s acceptable- at least as good as the cheap screens most other shops use for their own repairs!- but we wouldn’t claim it’s as impressive as the original.

However, the “Premium” screen repair is significantly better and comparable to the one your iPhone 7 first came with. This is the one we’d recommend as the quality is significantly higher for just a little extra and most other shops don’t offer replacement screens as good as this.

How much do you charge to diagnose a problem?

If it’s something we can identify over the counter during a quick discussion, we don’t normally charge. If we have to book it in, there’s a charge for our time (£CALL), but this will already be included in the cost of the repair if you go ahead with that.

Why does my iPhone 7 look like it’s bulging.?

The internal battery is swollen to to wear and damage causing a build-up of gas. This means it’s in a dangerous state (can catch fire) and needs replaced. You shouldn’t use it again until this has been looked at. (This article has more information on battery swelling).

My phone got wet, what should I do now?

Assuming the water actually got inside the phone (i.e. past any waterproofing), turn it off, don’t use it until it’s been looked at, and get it to us ASAP. This article on water-damaged phones provides more advice.
